Plant Pathogens and Disease is a course designed for undergraduate students pursuing degress in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant and Landscape Systems (PLAS), and others. Students enrolled in Plant Pathology minors are also requered to take this course. The general idea of this course is to serve as an introductory-level plant pathology course, covering diverse topics. The course is divided in 4 modules: 1) Impacts of plant diseases, 2) The disease triangle, 3) Biological differences between major pathogen groups, and 4) Management strategies (pros and cons).
Prerequisite: PLAS 131, BIOS 101, ENTO 115 and LIFE 120.
Semesters Taught: Spring 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Course Information: Syllabus
This course focuses on exploring the ecology and management strategies for plant pathogens. Understanding the pathogen ecology is a fundamental aspect of disease management. This is a graduate level course on the biology, spread, quantification, and management of plant pathogens and how environmental factors influence disease development. The course is 3 credit hours and is required for students in the Plant Pathology degree specializations and the Doctor of Plant Health program. A prerequisite course is PLPT 369 or equivalent; familiarity with the biology of microorganisms that cause plant disease is expected. Course format is a mixture of lectures, discussions, and student presentations.
Prerequisite: None (But instructor and PI approval may be needed).
Semesters Taught: Spring 2023, 2024, and 2025.
